Proportionate Share for Charter Schools

Proportionate Share for Charter Schools

Charter schools within Seminole County may elect to participate in federal grant programs received by the school district. Florida Statute 1002.33(17)(C) provides that “all charter schools shall receive all federal funding for which the school is otherwise eligible.”  As such, the school district is required to annually engage in collaboration with charter school leaders to develop a written plan for the use of federal funds to benefit charter school students.

Schools electing to participate in federal programs shall ensure that all activities align with the intended purpose of each federal program. In addition, all charter school expenditures under federal programs must (a) comply with the federal and state procurement and finance regulations, and (b) conform to all applicable federal, state, and program-specific rules and regulations including, but not limited to, applicable federal Office of Management & Budget Circulars, the federal Education Department General Administrative Regulations, and program-specific assurances.

Charter schools participate in federal funding opportunities by receiving either (a) direct service from the District to charter school stakeholders or (b) reimbursement to the charter school.  The direct service or reimbursement options may be chosen on a program-by-program basis.
