PSI High is an immersive, full-time program located within Seminole High School where students work to solve real community, business, and social problems. Students learn best when they are active participants in their learning, collaborating with their peers and teachers to do work that matters.
The ideal student for PSI High is passionate and wants to take control of his or her own learning. Our learners are the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
Through an innovative schedule and learning environment that fuses classes into project blocks, PSI High students build knowledge and skills by working on authentic, engaging, and complex projects. During the day, students move between three project blocks: Humanities, STEM, and Innovation. The following is an example of what a 9-12 schedule may look like within these blocks:
PSI High learners have three different specializations as part of their innovation block:
Digital Design (Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, Future: Unity)
Business Entrepreneurship
During senior year, students complete an ambitious capstone project that may include an internship and launching a product or service that addresses a local need. Our students graduate with a diploma and a portfolio of meaningful work in areas that includes business, entrepreneurship, social justice, and community improvement. Our teachers act as project managers and advisors, forming close working relationships with learners to help every PSI High student succeed.
Our learning environments are designed by students, for students. Instead of being stuck moving from classroom to classroom 48-minutes at a time, we combine classrooms and lab spaces to create open, flexible learning environments. Each project block is a combination of two subjects, two teachers, a design lab manager, and three learning spaces of increasing size and independence.
A cornerstone of our project-based approach is connecting students with people and places outside of the school. We want every project to have a real-world component that helps students see the authentic impact of their work.
Instead of carrying around binders and textbooks, all students are issued a personal learning device (iPad) as part of their PSI High enrollment. Students use this device to learn, create, communicate, and change the world.
