Florida Seal of Fine Arts
OVERVIEW
The Florida Seal of Fine Arts was established to:
- recognize high school graduates who have met exemplary benchmarks in fine arts coursework.
- encourage students to develop an exemplary level of proficiency in the performing or visual arts.
CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY
The Florida Seal of Fine Arts shall be awarded to a high school student who meets the following requirements:
- earns a standard high school diploma;
- completes at least three (3) year-long courses within one of the following areas: dance, music, theatre OR visual arts with a grade of “A” or higher in each course;
- completes at least two (2) of a list of five (5) requirements:
- earns a “B” or higher in a level three course (IB, AP, dual enrollment, or honors course); (Form FA-1)
- participates in a district or statewide organization’s juried event and receives a score or rating with written or oral feedback for two (2) years; (Form FA-3)
- records at least 25 volunteer hours of arts-related community service in their community and presents a comprehensive presentation on their experiences pursuant to district procedures; (Form FA-4)
- submits a portfolio that demonstrates the student is an exemplary practitioner of fine arts; (Form FA-2)
- receives district, state or national recognition for the creation and submission of an original work of art. (Form FA-3)
The Department of Teaching and Learning has already sent a list of eligible students to the Visual and Performing Arts teachers. Students interested in earning the Florida Seal of Fine Arts are encouraged to begin the process by contacting their Visual or Performing Arts teacher or their guidance counselor.
FORMS
To be completed and signed by school counselors.
- Required for all students
- Transcripts must be attached
- The counselor will enter completion dates for items A, B, and two from section C.
- Documents will be stored in the student’s cumulative file once they are completed.
To be completed by the student and signed by the teacher(s).
- The purpose of this form is to document and verify criteria C2 and/or C5 from the list above.
- This form requires both the student and teacher(s) to sign.
- This form will be turned into the counselor by the student once completed.
To be completed by the teacher(s).
- Students will submit their portfolio to their teacher based on their teacher’s submission process.
- Students must include:
- 1-8 pieces of original artwork.
- A written artist statement.
- In order to qualify, students must earn a score of 18 or higher (max score is 20).
- This form will be turned into the counselor by the student once completed.
To be completed by the student and confirmed by the teacher.
- The form is used to verify the requirements for criteria C3 from the list above (volunteer hours).
- Only volunteer hours that support a fine arts organization or event are eligible for qualification.
- Students will present their experience volunteering to their teacher.
- This form will be turned in to the counselor by the student once completed.
